Waking Up to the Parallel Shift

Abstract: The industry has been witnessing an increasing trend of multi and many core processors. What is the reason behind this trend and where is it headed? Accompanied with this trend is an emerging shift to parallel programming. What are the challenges of parallel programming and what kind of application design changes does it involve? Is this shift really necessary? Which application areas are most impacted by this shift? This session strives to answer these questions and inform the audience about the research being conducted in this space, which spans High Performance Computing, Parallel Computing, Throughput Computing and Supercomputing.
