This panel was part of a split session with Social and Cultural Impact on ICT Women ( SocialAndCulturalImpactOnICTWomen). ICT stands for Information and Communication Technology. The focus was on increasing the participation and leadership of women in ICT and improving the lives of women through ICT.

The panelists discussed examples of successful initiatives:

  • Grameen Phone: individuals buy cell phones and rent time on them, which improves access for everyone.
  • SchoolNet Africa (http://www.schoolnetafrica.net/) which provides access to computers in African schools
  • Kudumbashree in India (http://www.kudumbashree.org/), a woman-based poverty eradication program
  • Telecenters in Latin America and Africa
