Trish Millines Dziko, Director, Technology Access Foundation / TAF Academy:
We're leaving the best minds out of the educational system - just letting them slip through. Kids from communities of color are smart enough to learn but devastatingly undereducated. Often, they just sit at home alone watching TV after 2:15pm. What's needed is more than just an after school program, hence the founding of the TAF Academy.
Focus of the TAF Academy is working with / partnering with the public school model, currently in Seattle. Grades 6-12. Launches in 9/08. "As a corporation, you have a pipeline" - these people go through the system and come out ready to give back to the community. Corporations can even get involved earlier than they do with college interns - high school - even middle school.
